Restorer Ultimate for Windows can recover lost files from a wide range of storage devices and works with all Windows operating systems. It can recover from all Windows FAT and NTFS file systems. For the purpose of this review, we looked at the standard version; however, Bitmart, Inc. also provides a Pro and network version of the software.
This disk recovery software recovers lost files from a range of disk disasters, including damaged partitions, reformatted drives, deleted files, virus attacks and power failures. It restores data lost on USB drives, SmartMedia cards, memory sticks, SD cards, externally connected drives and more. The advanced versions of the software can reconstruct RAID arrays and recover data via a network connection. The standard version recovers data from Windows FAT and NTFS file systems, whereas the advanced versions also recover from Unix, Mac and Linux files systems.
Restorer Ultimate has a Windows-style interface with a simple left navigation bar for accessing the features. Scans run quickly, and you can preview scan results to find the files you are looking for. However, the preview tool did not render images any of our lost files during our tests.
To assist you further with finding your files, you can sort the scan results by creation date, extension, modification date and last accessed date. Additionally, media files display an estimate for chances of recovery so you can see if they are damaged or unlikely to be recoverable. Capable sort and filter tools are important because most lost files are not recoverable with their original file names.
If you need assistance, you can contact Bitmart by email or visit the online customer support center to request a copy of your registration key or to upgrade the software. The technical support team is available 24/7 by email, but the company does not provide chat or telephone support. To find answers to most questions about the software, you can read the online user manual and FAQs.
When it comes to disk recovery software, most applications generally perform the same functions. The differences are mainly apparent in the user interface and in how often the software is updated. On the positive side, Bitmart does report that this software works with Windows 8. On the negative side, however, we could not get the preview tool to display our test files, and the user interface is less attractive than those for our higher-ranked products. The inability to render file previews may be due to Restorer Ultimate for Windows not containing the code needed to display those types of files. For more success with lost-file previews and possible recovery, we recommend using one of our higher-ranked products.
Restorer Ultimate for Windows has been tested on Windows 8 and is compatible with all FAT and NTFS file systems. It can restore lost files from a variety of devices, including SD cards and USB drives.
Some features such as RAID reconstruction require an upgrade to the Pro version. In our tests, we could not get the preview tools to display our image files, and bitMart does not provide telephone or chat support.
This recovery software is flexible and includes a valuable disk imager; however, we would recommend that you look for a recovery solution that comes with more customer support.
